General Dynamics’ land systems division and Epirus have field tested a Stryker ground combat vehicle equipped with a directed energy system and high-power microwave technology.
During a demonstration at a U.S. government testing site, the integrated system, dubbed Stryker Leonidas, showcased its ability to disable enemy drones operating individually and in swarms, Epirus said Wednesday.
Stryker Leonidas, developed under a strategic teaming agreement between the companies in October 2021, is envisioned to bring advanced short range air defense capabilities to U.S. troops worldwide.
Epirus’ Leonidas directed energy platform uses an open architecture system that enables integration with existing command and control tools for tracking and countering adversarial drone threats.
“Adding Leonidas’ counter-electronics capabilities to the Stryker combat vehicle provides the joint force with unmatched mobile protection from the continuously evolving threat of weaponized drones,” said Gordon Stein, vice president of U.S. operations at General Dynamics Land Systems.
