BAE Eyes Partnership With Pipistrel on Electric-Powered Military Aircraft - top government contractors - best government contracting event

BAE Systems is planning to work with Slovenian aircraft manufacturer Pipistrel Aircraft on small planes powered by electricity for the global military aviation sector.

The proposed partnership is envisioned to address the need of international air forces for reduced fleet carbon emissions and running costs provided by lightweight electric aircraft, the defense contracting company said Sunday.

Through collaboration, BAE looks to combine its knowledge in advanced military aircraft with Pipistrel’s experience building electric planes.

While operational capability will always be the priority in defense, we know that solutions that are sympathetic to the environment are becoming increasingly important and our collaboration with Pipistrel presents a fantastic opportunity to leverage our joint expertise,” said Ian Muldowney, chief operating officer at BAE’s air business.

The planned partnership is a part of BAE’s work aimed toward sustainable aviation.
