ExecutiveBiz: In our last Spotlight in Sept. 2019, we discussed Comcast Business developing a federal government services team to expand communications networks for government agencies. Can you provide an update on how this team, Comcast Government Services, LLC has differentiated its place in the sector and how you continue to deepen your position in the sector to establish a stronger digital future?
Ken Folderauer: The past two years have been a watershed moment for Comcast Business and our entrance into the federal government space with Comcast Government Services. We’ve gained tremendous momentum and established a growing foothold, underpinned by our acquisition of Defined Technologies, LLC.
The addition of Defined Technologies expands our rapidly growing position as a premier provider of connectivity and communications solutions to government agencies. We are one of only nine prime contractors holding a General Services Administration (GSA) Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) contract to modernize the government’s IT, network, and telecommunications infrastructure.
As we further solidify our position as a trusted partner of the federal government, we’ll continue delivering innovative solutions to help the federal government achieve that mission.
ExecutiveBiz: 2021 saw Comcast Government Services win five Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) contracts. Can you explain the strategic importance of this engagement and the importance of improving network performance for federal agencies?
Ken Folderauer: “DISA provides enterprise network and IT infrastructure to support the requirements of the Department of Defense’s more than 40 military services, combatant commands and support organizations worldwide, including the President, Vice President and Secretary of Defense.
The Agency is in the midst of a multi-phased process of replacing 17,000 legacy circuits with Ethernet-based services to improve network performance and reduce costs. Being awarded five multi-million-dollar contracts valued at $343M by DISA is an incredible testament to the strength of Comcast Business’ network.
The federal government holds all its contractors to the absolute highest of technical and service-level standards and we are honored they have entrusted us with this important duty. By supporting one of DISA’s most critical networks we’re helping the Department of Defense further its vision of becoming the trusted provider to connect and protect the military in cyberspace through its Commercial Ethernet Gateway initiative.”
ExecutiveBiz: What are the biggest areas of opportunity in the federal sector for 2022?
Ken Folderauer: “2022 will bring enhanced innovation and increased competition among providers to offer new and innovative ways to help the federal government modernize their networks, improve performance and ultimately, save money. We’re looking forward to gaining an additional foothold in this critical space and creating new products and services geared toward the unique needs of not just the federal government, but also the state and local governments.”
ExecutiveBiz: What are your specific goals for Comcast Government Services headed into 2022? What are your priorities for the year ahead?
Ken Folderauer: “Comcast is committed to maintaining the highest standards for all our federal government clients. And now, with EIS in our purview, we look forward to more opportunities to help the federal government modernize its IT, network, and telecommunications infrastructure.
Having been in the FedTech space for more than 30 years, I’m excited to see what the future holds for Comcast Government Services – we’ve only just begun achieving what’s possible.”
