The Discovery Center Museum has received $75K in funds from Collins Aerospace to fund the procurement of a mobile laboratory that will deliver interactive activities in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics to students from Rockford, Mich.
The center will employ a Mobile STEM Lab to carry out outreach activities for children and families from Wisconsin and Chicago through a three-phase initiative, the company said Wednesday.
Collins Aerospace will send volunteer teams to assist the museum in conducting small group activities, family nights and yearly engineering and career events.
“Investing in STEM education, investing in workforce development and investing in our Rockford community are all key objectives for Collins Aerospace, and the Mobile STEM Lab helps us further all three,†said Eric Cunningham, executive director at Collins Aerospace’ electric power systems segment.
The award is a part of the company’s Redefining Futures program, an initiative that seeks to reinforce local communities, invest in workforce development and encourage students in the pursuit of STEM careers.
