Greg Bourdelais, a senior director at Juniper Networks, has said the Department of Defense should utilize multicloud capabilities to prevent system lags and drive modernization.
In a Nextgov piece published Tuesday, Bourdelais wrote that the DoD needs to deploy a holistic approach and leverage various private, public and hybrid cloud sources as a singular entity to support the transition from legacy systems that are no longer supported by the original vendors.
He added that the Pentagon should utilize disparate IP-based operating environments to support the smooth implementation of a multicloud strategy.
“Defense is building on top of an open and evolvable software-defined networking platform that can operate across private, hybrid and public cloud environments at scale,†Bourdelais said. “These capabilities give IT managers greater consolidated control of their entire IT enterprise, while at the same time, simplifying operational tasks. They provide greater flexibility to agency program teams to provide more agile and responsive service,†he added.
According to Bourdelais, DoD has allocated $283.5B in fiscal 2019 funding to operations and maintenance activities for its digital systems.
