BAE Systems has received a potential $4.7M contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to incorporate machine learning into systems used to decipher radio frequency signals.
The contract was awarded under DARPA’s Radio Frequency Machine Learning Systems program and includes demonstration support and hardware delivery, BAE said Monday.
BAE’s Controllable Hardware Integration for Machine-learning Enabled Real-time Adaptivity system offers a reconfigurable hardware platform for algorithm developers to decode RF signals in dense electromagnetic spectrum environments. CHIMERA has multiple control surfaces and open architecture interfaces to facilitate upgrades.
“Machine-learning is on the verge of revolutionizing signals intelligence technology, just as it has in other industries,†said Dave Logan, vice president and general manager of C4ISR systems at BAE.
Logan added that CHIMERA brings the software platform’s flexibility to hardware. Work on the contract will occur at the company’s sites in Texas and New Hampshire.
