SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said the company may use SuperDraco abort thrusters to safely land Crew Dragon in the event of a parachute malfunction, Teslarati reported Sunday.

Musk noted in a tweet dated March 10 that NASA is yet to approve the propulsive landing update, which will trigger the thrusters during a partial or total parachute failure in order to minimize impact on the crew.

The company is considering the integration of redundant recovery, as well as cushioned landings on ground or water. to increase safety and prevent deaths on impact.

The safety feature has been programmed onto Falcon 9 and may designate Crew Dragon as the only spacecraft in the world that can ensure passengers' survival despite parachute failure.
