The U.S. Census Bureau is seeking proposals for the latest wave of an effort to persuade government, industry and other communities to jointly build technologies that address national challenges, NextGov reported Monday.
The Opportunity Project, launched in 2016, fosters collaboration for the development of digital tools via use of government-based open data, the U.S. Census Bureau said.
Drew Zachary, the program’s director, said that its main thrust is to address public needs and design applications for the masses. “We talk about three goals of The Opportunity Project … people, data and collaboration,” she said.
“Whether that’s helping people to find housing near their schools or find jobs or understand where their tax dollars are going by connecting federal spending and performance data,” she added.
The project’s 2018 run will release 25 new applications in February next year.
