Northrop Grumman has won a potential $17.2M contract to produce and engineer a software platform for integration into the U.S. Navy’s primary computer-based navigation plotting system.
The company will provide the software as part of a project to modernize the hardware and cyber operating system of the Electronic Chart and Display Information System, the Defense Department said Friday.
ECDIS uses automated technology and sensors to collect data from digital nautical or electronic navigational charts meant to help the service branch determine a ship’s exact position.
The charting platform is deployed on all Navy and Military Sealift Command vessels as well as fleet support activities, expeditionary platforms and land-based test and training facilities.
Naval Sea Systems Command received five offers for the contract through a competitive procurement on FedBizOpps.
Work will take place in Charlottesville, Va. through September 2020.
