IBM and the Air Force Research Laboratory have unveiled an experimental supercomputing machine that will work to mimic the human brain’s neural network to perform pattern recognition and integrated sensory processing functions.
AFRL said Tuesday it currently examines applications of the Blue Raven machine at the Information Directorate Advanced Computing Applications Lab located in Rome, N.Y.
Blue Raven is equipped with IBM’s TrueNorth software ecosystem and designed to have a processing power capacity equivalent to 64 million neurons and 16 billion synapses while consuming only 40 watt.
Researchers say the brain-inspired neural network technology will demonstrate greater efficiency rate than systems powered by conventional chips.
