AT&T has announced the availability of FirstNet wireless communications service plans designed for career and volunteer first responders who intend to use the national public safety network.
The telecommunications company said Tuesday interested FirstNet users can sign up for the service at any of the firm’s more than 5,300 retail stores nationwide or through an online registration portal.
AT&T plans to work with qualified first responder agencies to verify individuals before they can avail the subscriber paid user offer.
Chris Sambar, AT&T’s senior vice president for FirstNet, said the network is designed to provide tools for first responders to communicate during emergency response operations.
Some emergency medical services, fire and law enforcement agencies do not equip their personnel with wireless communications devices and service plans, according to the company.
AT&T is helping build the country’s first national public safety broadband network through a $6.5 billion public-private partnership with the FirstNet Authority.
