John McCumber, former director of Gartner‘s security and risk management consulting practice, has been named director of cybersecurity advocacy at The International Information System Security Certification Consortium, or (ISC)2.
He will oversee (ISC)2’s partnership with government, academic and commercial organizations in efforts to promote public-private collaboration, cybersecurity curriculum and legislation designed to help address critical security challenges, the nonprofit membership association said Monday.
McCumber will be based in (ISC)2’s Alexandria, Virginia office and report to Brian Correia, regional managing director for North America.
At Gartner, he was responsible for the company’s efforts to develop security assessments and guides meant to help state and local government organizations adopt proactive security measures.
The more than 25-year technology and consulting veteran also served as senior manager at Mandiant; vice president of information assurance and cybersecurity at Strategic Operational Solutions; and a strategic programs manager at Symantec.
McCumber is a former U.S. Air Force officer and cryptologic fellow of the National Security Agency.
