The Air Force Association’s CyberPatriot has given a Center of Excellence Award to Fairfax County Public Schools for work to help communities and institutions support the educational development of students.
Superintendent Karen Garza received the award, which was presented by CyberPatriot National Commissioner Bernie Skoch on behalf of FCPS, the AFA said Monday.
“FCPS has engaged many individuals in their community, and their unyielding support has not gone unnoticed as they have spurred great interest in their communities on tackling the challenges,” said Skoch.
“FCPS and the AFA understand that the answer to the challenges our nation faces in cyberspace lies in ‘people’ and training today’s youth to be the next generation of cyber experts.”
CyberPatriot, a youth cyber education program, is part of the AFA’s STEM brainchild that aims to build up cyber skills in U.S. students.
Four other institutions — Los Angeles Unified School District, the City of San Antonio, Spokane Public Schools and Oklahoma’s Rose State College — have been recognized with the award.
