The International Center for Bio saline Agriculture in Dubai will use Dell technology to help build a system to analyze the effect of weather patterns on agriculture in the Middle East and North Africa.
The ICBA, funded by USAID and in partnership with NASA’s Goddard Flight Center, will use weather research and forecast modelling to understand local climate change and its impact on the region’s water and agriculture resources, Dell said Tuesday.
“The [ICBA] undertakes incredibly important work to improve water management in the MENA region and help the most vulnerable in society,” said Dave Brooke, GM for Dell Middle East.
“We are delighted to have been selected to implement a high-performance computing solution as well as support their in-house team with security solutions and services.”
Dell’s deployment of computing services and security solutions in Dubai is intended to help identify farmers in the MENA region, extract data and allocate resources.
The organization has a particular interest in addressing the issues of salinity and the using of saline water for irrigated agriculture in a region that has scarce natural resources, Dell said.
Rachael McDonnell, water policy and governance scientist for ICBA, said her organization wants to delivery information to governments through the partnership and use Dell technology to analyze data.
“We were looking for a partner which could offer support through responsive services. We are delighted to partner with Dell which has previous experience of modelling and offers a robust and scalable end-to-end solution,” McDonnell said.
