Raytheon has begun the final phase of software development of a ground-based operational control system the company developed for the U.S. Air Force’s GPS III satellites.
The company said Tuesday the final software build phase for the GPS Next-Generation Operational Control System aims to raise automation and building controls for the M-code military GPS signal and L1C civilian GPS signal.
“Our team has two primary goals this year,” said Dave Wajsgras, president of Raytheon’s intelligence, information and services business.
“We will support the U.S. Air Force’s GPS III launch this fall and complete the software build for the full operational system by year’s end,†added Wajsgras, a 2018 Wash100 recipient.
Raytheon will start the integration and testing phase upon the completion of the software development work to facilitate the GPS OCX system delivery in June 2021.
The GPS OCX program has begun to implement without waivers the DODI 8500.2 “Defense in Depth” data assurance standards to protect the system from potential cyber threats.
