Unisys unveiled today its LineSight software for border security threat detection. The platform uses advanced data analytics and machine learning to help border agents make time-sensitive decisions regarding traveler and cargo inspections, said the Blue Bell, Penn., company.
LineSight works by analyzing high volumes of the data to highlight potential threats. Such data includes visa applications, reservations, ticket purchases, seat selections and check-in and arrival forms. Unisys says the software reduces the number of false positives, which can waste resources and slow down the clearance process for travelers and cargo not posing a risk.
“Many legacy border security solutions identify potentially risky travelers and cargo based on previously known threats – which is kind of like driving a car and only using your rearview mirror,†commented Mark Forman, global head of Unisys Public Sector.
Because of the vast amount of data needing to be reviewed, along with limited government budgets and resources, the current system is faltering, Forman noted, adding that LineSight enables border agents to expediate the clearance process without compromising safety.
International tourist arrivals will increase by up to five percent this year, according to World Tourism Organization estimates.
