Finland-based defense company Patria has awarded BAE Systems a contract to manufacture 40-millimeter naval gun systems for installation on the Finnish fast attack craft fleet.
BAE said Tuesday it will produce and deliver Bofors 40 Mk4 naval guns to Finland’s navy and its Hamina-class vessels as part of a mid-life upgrade and overhaul initiative.
Patria serves as the prime contractor on the Hamina-class Squadron 2000 modernization effort.
Bofors 40 Mk4 is designed to engage air, sea and ground targets and operate with multiple ammunition types such as BAE’s 40mm 3P all-target rounds.
Finnish naval ships are equipped with 40-mm L/70 and 57Mk3 guns using the 3P ammunition, BAE noted.
