nuclear power plantPennsylvania-based engineering and construction company Day and Zimmermann has secured a potential 10-year, $950 million contract to supply workers and temporary personnel in case of outages at the Tennessee Valley Authority‘s nuclear power plants, Times Free Press reported Friday.

Dave Flessner writes the contract workers will serve to help TVA address increased workloads at the nuclear plants during refueling and repair outages as well as support operations at the Brown Ferry, Sequoyah and Watts Bar nuclear plants.

“Our goal is to drive performance, innovation and continuous improvement at a lower cost,” said Joe Grimes, TVA nuclear chief.

“This approach supports a variable workforce for both craft and non-craft workers to execute nuclear outage and supplemental maintenance work, as needed, at all three of our nuclear sites.”

The report said Day and Zimmermann’s directors approved the TVA contract during the company’s quarterly board meeting.
