ManpackRadio1General Dynamics‘ mission systems segment has shipped 30 two-channel manpack networking radios to the U.S. Army under the Handheld, Manpack and Small Form Fit program.

The company said Wednesday the digital radios are based on the AN/PRC-155 two-channel networking radios and work to communicate through the Mobile User Objective System network.

General Dynamics was awarded a spot on a potential $12.7 billion contract to manufacture 30 two-channel military communication radios for evaluation, GovConWire reported Feb. 29.

Paul Parent,  vice president of radio products for General Dynamics’ mission systems business, said the radios are designed to feature secure network communications and updates based on soldier feedback.

The company added its radio products offer LTE broadband communications for law enforcement and first responders.

AN/PRC-155 radios facilitated communications between military personnel through the MUOS network at the U.S. Navy-Army operational test in November 2015 and during an Army demonstration in Hawaii in February, General Dynamics noted.
