Global airplane maker and defense contractor Airbus will invest an additional $1 million toward a material distribution center the company operates in Ashburn, Virginia that will support a consolidated operations hub with the parent company’s Satair Group subsidiary.
Airbus will also add more employees to the facility as the company works to fulfill orders of more than 2,800 Airbus aircraft for customers in the Latin America, North America and Caribbean regions, Loudoun County’s Department of Economic Development said Monday.
“The Airbus Americas and Satair Group facility will now be the company’s biggest material distribution center by customer volume,” said Buddy Rizer, the Loudoun County Department of Economic Development’s executive director.
Airbus purchased the Denmark-based aircraft component and service company Satair in 2011 for close to $504 million.
Loudoun County will also request a $200,000 fund in May in the form of fee waivers and cash from the board of supervisors to train and retain staff members required for the consolidated operations and looks to meet a return on investment projected within three years.
The material distribution center operates 24 hours per day and looks to provide rapid-response services to meet requirements from clients around the globe.
