Systems Made Simple has been awarded a five-year task order to help the Department of Veterans Affairs process disability claims and streamline the delivery of benefits to retired service personnel.
The Lockheed Martin-owned company won the task order through the Transformation Twenty One Total Technology contract worth approximately $262 million, Lockheed said Thursday.
Systems Made Simple will work to convert paper files into electronic format as part of the Veterans Benefits Administration’s Transformation Plan that was launched in 2012.
“Improving service to the nearly four million U.S. veterans who receive compensation and payment benefits through VA requires a robust system that promises scalability, efficiency and security,” said Horace Blackman, vice president of the health and life sciences team at Lockheed’s information systems and global solutions business.
Systems Made Simple has developed a repository that works to reduce claims backlog and shorten the processing time through the elimination of unnecessary distribution of paper documents across VA.
VBA expects to process over 2.8 billion images from eFax, flash drives, DVDs, microfiche and other sources through the Transformation Plan in the next five years.
