Raytheon will confirm on Monday its partnership with Alenia Aermacchi and CAE to compete for the U.S. Air Force‘s T-X trainer replacement contract, Defense News reported Tuesday.
Aaron Mehta and Lara Seligman write Raytheon likely will hold a prime role on the team, which will propose a variant of Alenia’s M-346 aircrew training system for the competition.
General Dynamics left the Alenia consortium as a primary contractor in March 2015.
According to Defense News, the following consortia are also vying for the T-X program:
- Boeing and Saab
- Lockheed Martin and Korean Aerospace Industries
- Northrop Grumman, BAE Systems and L-3 Communications
- Textron AirLand
The Air Force could name the winning team next year to build up to 350 systems that would replace the military branch’s fleet of T-38 aircrew trainers, the report said.
