Science Applications International Corp. unveiled its first updated amphibious assault vehicle for the U.S. Marine Corps at a company facility in Hanahan, South Carolina last week, the Post and Courier reported Friday.
David Wren writes SAIC was awarded a potential five-year, $194 million contract to equip 10 prototype AAVs with new blast-resistant seats armor protection, transmission and suspension systems.
SAIC CEO Tony Moraco told the publication that the military service has engaged in open dialogue with the company to address the program’s requirements.
The Marine Corps plans to test the upgrades in water and on land over an eight-month period before it decides whether to modernize nearly 400 AAVs by spring 2017, Wren reports.
SAIC bought a three-dimensional printer last year to prototype new components for the AAV modernization effort, the report said.
