Jacobs - ExecutiveMosaicJacobs Engineering Group will provide construction inspection services for the New Jersey Department of Transportation‘s $79 million Route 37 Mathis Bridge rehabilitation project under a $7.7 million contract.

The company said Tuesday it will supervise the structural, mechanical and electrical rehabilitation of the bridge’s bascule section and the construction of exothermic deck units.

“Both the Mathis Bridge and the neighboring Tunney Bridge are used to travel on and off the barrier island from Toms River to Seaside Heights, N.J., one of the well-known summer retreats and year-round shore communities,” said Randy Pierce, group vice president at Jacobs.

He noted that the company will work with NJDOT as the agency eyes improved access to the popular destination in support of the local economy.

Traffic will be diverted to Tunney Bridge during the course of the rehabilitation project in the offseason, Jacobs said.

The company added that construction is scheduled to be “substantially” complete by May 2018.
