The Defense Innovation Unit is seeking prototype concepts for a customizable, lightweight and projection-based helmet-mounted display for the F-22 Raptor jet.
According to DIU’s notice, interested entities have until Dec. 5 to submit bids including a complete HMD proposal for the Raptor Open System Tactical Helmet Display activity.
The Defense Department plans to award an other transaction agreement after the solicitation process.
Selected vendors will undergo an initial phase of performance involving airworthiness approvals planning. They will show software service capabilities and collaborate with Lockheed Martin and Curtiss-Wright regarding any needed aircraft hardware changes.
Lockheed secured a $10.9 billion contract in November 2021 to update and maintain the F-22 Raptor. The Bethesda, Maryland-based aerospace company previously contracted Curtiss-Wright to provide a processor module technology to help upgrade the aircraft.
