Raytheon Technologies' intelligence and space business has landed a $70M contract from the U.S. Navy to test, inspect, evaluate and restore mast components for a submarine communications system.
Work under the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract from the Naval Undersea Warfare Center will cover the fabrication of the Submarine High-Data Rate platform's spare mast parts, the company said Tuesday.
Raytheon Technologies will also repair and provide spare parts for the service branch's active submarines and the future Columbia class submarines within a five-year period.
SubHDR features a high-data rate, multiband satellite communications capacity and employs a mast antenna to connect submariners with the Defense Satellite Communication System, the Global Broadcast Service and the Milstar satellite constellation.
The platform is also designed to help users perform voice, data and video calls and deliver internet access, images and secure wideband multimedia.
