Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky subsidiary and United Rotorcraft have delivered three multi-role helicopter units to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the City of San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection at California.

The S-70i Firehawk is designed to help fire crews deter wildfires, rescue firefighters and civilians and carry up to 12 firefighters, Lockheed said Monday.

S-70i also houses a 1K-gallon water tank, a retractable snorkel, a rescue hose and the tank’s extended landing gear.

CAL FIRE is slated to receive eight more aircraft units as part of a delivery order and is eligible to exercise an option for three more units.

“This capability brings unmatched multi-mission capability to these firefighting agencies to protect lives and property,” said Mike Slattery, president at United Rotorcraft.

Sikorsky manufactured the helicopters before they were delivered to United Rotorcraft for customization into firefighting units.
