Don Claussen, an L3Harris Technologies executive, told SpaceNews in an interview published Wednesday about the company’s role in satellite communications, especially in the development of airborne, maritime and ground-based terminals and antennas for warfighters.
He cited the impact of the merger between L3 Technologies and Harris on the satcom market and how Harris’ offerings help address gaps in legacy L3’s product line.
Claussen, who serves as vice president and general manager for Army and homeland defense programs for L3Harris’ broadband communications systems sector, mentioned the transition to electronically steerable antenna technology as one of the technology trends when it comes to satcom terminals and antennas.
“Electronically steerable antenna technology will most likely have an impact on the adoption rate of low Earth orbit services by the Defense Department,†he said. “The tracking capabilities, beam forming and shaping capabilities go beyond what mechanical tracking antennas can do.â€
Claussen also discussed L3Harris technologies that work to address jamming and interference and how the U.S. military can leverage new medium- and low-Earth orbit constellations.
