Martin Van Ryswyk, a more than 30-year software engineering veteran, has been appointed senior vice president of product at satellite imaging services firm Planet.
He most recently served as executive VP of product management and engineering at Santa Clara, Calif.-based firm DataStax, Planet said Monday.
Van Ryswyk spent more than seven years at DataStax and contributed to the development of Apache Cassandra, an open-source distributed database system designed for a cloud environment.
Prior to joining the company, Van Ryswyk held engineering leadership roles at San Francisco-based DevOps software firm Electric Cloud and Tidal Software before the latter was acquired by Cisco in 2009.
He was also a senior director at Dell EMC for more than four years and has been serving as an adviser for Databricks since 2017.
Van Ryswyk holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of California, Davis.
