IBM has partnered with the government of Los Angeles and LA Cyber Lab to help local businesses defend against cyberattacks through the delivery of technologies and tools.

As part of the partnership, LA Cyber Lab developed a smartphone application that analyzes suspicious emails while IBM’s security business created a cloud-based threat information sharing tool, the company said Tuesday.

IBM noted that the tools utilize information from IBM X-Force Exchange, a platform that has data on more than 17M spam and phishing attacks, 800 terabytes of threat activity, reputation data from malicious IP addresses as well as the firm’s X-Force IRIS Threat Intelligence offerings.

In addition, the company is slated to hold three cybersecurity training sessions that will expose the participants to simulated cyberattacks.

“Taking preventative steps to strengthen cybersecurity in cities now, can help them prepare for, and protect against, issues in the future,” said Wendi Whitmore, vice president of X-Force Threat Intelligence at IBM’s security business.
