Harris to Update USAF Aircraft Countermeasures Tech Under Potential $72M Contract

Harris has received a potential $71.7M U.S. Air Force contract to perform non-recurring engineering work on  countermeasures technology built to guard military aircraft from radio frequency threats.

Work will take place in Clifton, N.J., through November 2022 and covers form, fit, function and interface replacements of Line Replaceable Unit-2 and LRU-3 components for the ALQ-172 self-protection system, the Department of Defense said Friday.  

The company will also provide documents and fulfill technical orders under the cost-plus-fixed-fee contract.

USAF will obligate the full contract amount at the time of award from its fiscal 2019 consolidated sustainment activity group-engineering funds.

AN/ALQ-172 is designed to integrate with the B-52 bomber and the special mission and gunship variants of the C-130  transport aircraft.

Harris aims to extend the operational life of the countermeasures system through 2040.
