Fairbanks Morse has secured a contract to manufacture emergency diesel generator sets for the third and fourth aircraft carriers of the U.S. Navy's Gerard Ford class.
The company said Monday it will provide the EDGs to serve as backup electrical power on the future USS Enterprise (CVN-80) and CVN-81 vessels in the event of an outage.
Production of the generators will take place at a facility in Beloit, Wis. The devices are scheduled for delivery to Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding division in 2023.
Under the contract, Fairbanks Morse will also support installation, testing and commissioning and sea trial efforts for the two ships.
The Navy uses the company's diesel engines on nearly 80 percent of the service's ships with a medium-speed power requirement.
