FLIR Systems has received a $39.6M order to provide nano-unmanned aerial vehicle systems for the U.S. Army's surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
The company said Thursday it aims to begin deliveries of the Black Hornet Personal Reconnaissance Systems this year in support of the Soldier Borne Sensor program.
The service initially awarded the company a contract in June 2018 to produce the first batch of nano UAVs, which are slated for integration into the Army force soon.
FLIR added it will expand its repair and service facility in Somerset, Ky., in an effort to address a demand for unmanned aircraft support in the country. The company has supplied more than 8K PRS units to customers worldwide.
