Parsons has received a potential two-year, $82M contract from the California Department of Toxic Substance Control to support the removal of lead-contaminated soil from more than 1.6K residential properties in Los Angeles.
The cleanup is considered the largest of its kind to be conducted in California and will help create jobs for local residents, the company said Nov. 21.
Parsons will work on properties around the Exide Technologies battery recycling facility in Vernon, Ca., according to a DTSC statement released October.
“Bringing on Parsons adds an experienced partner to this project and helps accelerate the pace of cleanup to protect the residents in the communities surrounding Exide,†DTSC Director Barbara Lee said earlier.
Pasadena, Ca.-based Parsons will also subcontract Innovative Construction Solutions to remediate properties in the cities of Los Angeles and Maywood and East Los Angeles County.
The contract is part of a legislation that Gov. Edmund Brown Jr. signed in 2016 to provide $176.6M to clean up to 2.5K properties with the highest levels of lead in soil and the greatest risk of exposure across California.
Parsons started the cleanup in October and is expected to complete work in December 2020.
