Michael Gray, a senior director at Science Applications International Corp., has said the company has worked on 10 various directives to come up with an experimental combat vehicle prototype for the U.S. Army’s Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center, National Defense reported Friday.
A SAIC-led industry team received a potential eight-year, $237M contract in September 2017 to build manned platforms for TARDEC under the Next Generation Combat Vehicle Prototype program.
“What we’re concentrating on now with TARDEC is integration efforts on the existing Mission-Enabling Technology Demonstrator, an old Bradley [fighting vehicle],†said Gray, SAIC’s senior director for TARDEC and Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command.
Gray noted that the team plans to hand over by next summer a vehicle designed to meet the service’s physical, lethality, power and architecture requirements.
“What it will be designed to do is take some of the current more promising technologies that the Army has been working on, trying them, and confirming the value they provide on the platform, which then could fit into a platform in the future,†he added.
The report said the industry team performs work in Sterling Heights, Mich.
