Lockheed Martin will produce additional Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptors to meet the increased demand of the U.S. Army and its allies, Defense News reported Wednesday.
The increased orders come as the Army’s on-hand stock of PAC-3 is shrinking due to the service’s continuing missions in other countries.
The Bethesda, Md.-based firm will also produce 576 PAC-3 MSEs for Romania, Poland and Sweden to boost their air defenses and deter threats in the Middle East and Europe.
Bob Delgado, director of international business development for integrated air and missile defense at Lockheed Martin, stated that the company will possibly add another PAC-3 production line due to the increased demand and workload.
The Army planned to procure only 95 missiles per year from 2018 to 2022, but decided to increase its order to 240 for 2019 and 160 each year for 2021 and 2022.
