Saab will provide an agile multibeam radar system for two Philippine frigates under a foreign military sales process through the U.S. Navy.
The company said Monday it will install its Sea Giraffe AMB for the BRP Gregorio del Pilar (FF-15) and the BRP Ramon Alcaraz (FF-16) of the Philippine navy.
Saab noted that the FMS includes the supply of the company’s 9LV product for the control and display of the naval radar system.
The radar designated as AN/SPS-77 by the U.S. Navy is designed for three-dimensional, multi-role and medium-range surveillance of air and surface environments.
The Sea Giraffe AMB is geared for and has been installed on vessels that include Sweden’s Visby-class corvette and the U.S.’ Independence-class littoral combat ship.
The Philippine frigates involved in the FMS were previously Hamilton-class cutters of the U.S. Coast Guard.
