Latitia McCane Named Education Director at Huntington Ingalls’ Apprentice School

Latitia McCane, formerly dean of instructional services at Bishop State Community College in Alabama, has been appointed director of education at the Apprentice School managed by Huntington Ingalls Industries‘ Newport News Shipbuilding division.

She will oversee the Apprentice School’s craft training, academic delivery, student services, accreditation and recruitment functions in her new position, Huntington Ingalls said said Friday.

“Latitia comes to us at an important time in our company’s history when we are focused on people and technology—transforming the way we do business,” said Ray Bagley, vice president of trades operations at Newport News Shipbuilding.

“I’m confident that she will play an integral role in helping prepare our shipbuilders for the future,” Bagley added.

McCane previously served as associate dean of instruction at Jefferson Davis Community College located in Alabama.

Huntington Ingalls’ Apprentice School offers four- to eight-year training in 19 trades and eight optional advanced programs. It offers students the opportunity to earn associate degrees in business administration, engineering and engineering technology, as well as bachelor’s degrees in mechanical or electrical engineering.
