CSRA will work with Supermicro Computer and Edge Solutions & Consulting to expand the computing capacity at NASA’s Center for Climate Simulation under a contract with the agency’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
CSRA said Wednesday it will update NASA’s Discover supercomputer to increase the system’s high-performance computing capacity to approximately 5 petaFLOPS as part of the 14th scalable compute unit incremental expansion initiative.
Paul Nedzbala, an executive vice president and head of CSRA’s health and civil group, said the company aims to expand Goddard center’s HPC capabilities through the procurement.
NCCS operates under the computational and information sciences and technology office within Goddard’s sciences and exploration directorate and works to provide data analytics and computing capabilities to scientists who study the Earth’s climate system.
The SCU14 augmentation effort includes the Intel-built Skylake processor system and Omni-Path interconnect platform and is based on Supermicro’s FatTwin server nodes.
NCC’s other computing capabilities include the Advanced Data Analytics Platform private cloud, Data Analytics and Storage System, mass storage and remote visualization technologies.
