AT&T has begun to develop a structure monitoring platform that is designed to help organizations remotely inspect structures such as roads and railways.
The company said Tuesday it is currently testing the AT&T Smart Cities Structure Monitoring system, which will support the evaluation of structural and environmental factors affecting infrastructure in near real time.
The offering includes LTE-powered sensors designed to measure details such as cracks and tilts as well as an alerting feature meant to issue notifications on significant events.
The new platform will be part of AT&T’s suite of smart city technologies, which includes the Smart Cities Digital Infrastructure, Smart Irrigation, Smart Cities Operations Center and Smart Grid Solutions.
AT&T created its smart cities organization in 2015 and has since launched smart city projects in various cities such as Atlanta, Dallas, Montgomery County and Mexico City.
