LMI has entered into a cooperative agreement with the Defense Department to support the $235 million Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation Scholarship for Service Program.
The company said Wednesday it will help the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering carry out the program through support services worth $26 million over five years.
“We are partnering with a series of stakeholders across the board, working with over 230 universities and 150 facilities across DoD, and supporting over 1,000 Phase I and II students in different stages of the program,” said Shaye Brotherton, program support manager for the SMART project at LMI’s organizational and human capital solutions group.
LMI will help administer the program, integrate and update the SMART Information Management System database, disburse and track scholarship funds and facilitate marketing and outreach efforts.
The SMART program will grant academic funds to select undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students pursuing a degree in the science, technology, engineering and math fields.
Scholars will be required to serve in full-time positions within DoD for a certain period of time after graduation, LMI noted.
