General Atomics‘ electromagnetic systems group has received a nine-month, $8.9 million contract to help the Missile Defense Agency integrate and test a low-power laser system on an unmanned aerial vehicle.
The Defense Department said Monday GA-EMS will conduct work under MDA’s Low Power Laser Demonstrator Phase One effort that seeks to address power and aperture size requirements for laser technology.
Work will occur in San Diego and Poway, California through July 31, 2018.
MDA awarded the contract following an Advanced Technology Innovation Broad Agency Announcement on FedBizOpps and obligated $2 million in fiscal 2017 research, development, test and engineering funds at the time of award.
