Tripwire Survey: 80% of Security Pros More Concerned With Cybersecurity This Year - top government contractors - best government contracting eventA new Tripwire survey says 80 percent of security professionals have expressed more concern on cybersecurity in 2017 than in the previous year.

Tripwire said Monday it polled at least 200 security professionals at the RSA Conference 2017 and found that only 17 percent are confident in the U.S. government’s capacity to safeguard itself from potential cyber attacks.

“What the results of this survey show is that seasoned cybersecurity professionals are not confident in the government’s current cybersecurity strategy, and these worries can trickle down to the list of concerns for an enterprise,” said David Meltzer, chief technology officer at Tripwire.

“While organizations look for their fears to be resolved over the next year, they will also need to increasingly work with security vendors to be reassured that they are taking the right security approach.”

Tripwire also found that 60 percent of survey respondents said they have confidence in their organizations’ potential to implement fundamental security measures, while 48 percent of the professionals said the shortage in skilled workforce would be top reason behind security failures at their enterprises.

The respondents also cited intellectual property theft, brand reputation and financial loss as their top three concerns for organizations that do not have security programs in place.
