Chris Lu, deputy secretary of the Labor Department, is set to join Washington, D.C.-based FiscalNote in February as the company’s first senior strategy adviser.
Lu will focus on business development in coordination with co-founder and CEO Tim Hwang and the executive team, FiscalNote said Thursday.
“Companies, non-profits and advocacy groups face increasing uncertainty with the change in presidential administrations and the competing interests of state and local governments,” said Hwang.
“There are few people who understand better how to navigate this challenging political terrain than Chris Lu.”
Lu has served as the White House cabinet secretary, assistant to the president and co-chair of the White House’s Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
He worked as acting chief-of-staff for President Barack Obama during the latter’s time as a senator, and he was also deputy chief counsel of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee under Rep. Henry Waxman (D-California).
Lu served as a law clerk for Judge Robert Cowen on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and led the 2008 transition project for Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
