Saab has released a ground-based compact radar system in the U.S. market in efforts to help military customers address multiple types of threat when they conduct missions.
Sweden-based Saab said Monday it will transfer rights to the Giraffe 1X radar that mounts on vehicles, vessels and fixed installations to its subsidiary Saab Defense and Security USA in a push to help address emerging requirements of U.S. clients.
Erik Smith, head of Saab Defense and Security USA, said the transfer of intellectual property will help the organization create a development track for the system.
“Opposition capabilities are increasing, which means U.S. ground troops need a reliable, accurate system that can detect, track and classify multiple threat types,” added Smith.
Saab also seeks to integrate stealth features into its portfolio of signature management systems to help military users conceal assets as well as aid mounted and dismounted warfighters in any environment, the company said Wednesday.
The effort will build on the company’s previous camouflage system development projects to support the U.S. Army‘s ground troops and armored vehicles.
The company will showcase its signature management technology offerings at the ongoing Association of the U.S. Army exhibition in Washington.
