CH-53KingStallionA proposal by Lockheed Martin‘s Sikorsky subsidiary to manufacture CH-53K King Stallion helicopters at a company facility in Stratford, Connecticut for the U.S. Navy was approved by local union members through a 2,104-140 vote, CTPost reported Monday.

Amanda Cuda writes Teamsters Local 1150 stated that the Navy contract will become null and void if another production facility was selected since the contract requires for 200 CH-53K helicopters to be built in Stratford.

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy and Lockheed inked an agreement in September to retain Sikorsky’s headquarters in Connecticut and increase the subsidiary’s workforce in the state to more than 8,000 by 2032.

Lockheed will receive $220 million in financial incentives from the government of Connecticut in exchange for job creation and in-state investments through the 16-year deal approved by the Connecticut General Assembly.

Sikorsky spokesman Paul Jackson said Sikorsky will work with the Navy and Marine Corps to prepare the Stratford facility ahead of CH-53K’s low rate initial production, Cuda reported.
