scaneagle-n202seBoeing’s Insitu subsidiary has donated a ScanEagle unmanned aircraft to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region to give public the opportunity to view the drone.

Insitu said Thursday the ScanEagle N202SE will display Boeing Aviation Hangar at the museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center facility in Chantilly, Virginia.

The unmanned aircraft was the first drone to perform commercial beyond visual line of sight flight in the U.S. national airspace system.

ScanEagle N202SE performed the first beyond visual line of sight commercial operation with a certified UAS in 48 states as part of a track inspection operation for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.

“At a time when the unmanned aviation industry is advancing faster than ever, we take great pride in the pioneering work Insitu has done to help shape this path,” said Ryan Hartman, Insitu president and CEO.
