IBM has installed the company’s Watson cognitive computing system in Aerialtronics’ unmanned aircraft systems in an effort to help teams gain a complete view of their surroundings and analyze captured imagery.
Aerialtronics’ Watson-equipped drones will work to capture images and send them to the IBM Watson Internet of Things Platform on IBM Cloud in near real time through high definition cameras and Watson visual recognition application programming interfaces, IBM said Monday.
The drones will help to analyze the images in order to address potential issues such as damaged equipment and telecommunications infrastructure.
“We are very excited to work with Aerialtronics to bring these capabilities to telecommunications providers and we look forward to continuing to push the boundaries on what this pairing can accomplish,†said Harriet Green, general manager of IBM Watson Internet of Things, commerce and education.
Aerialtronics plans to apply its Altura Zenith multirotor in the future to help analyze a cell tower performance, clear the line of sight with existing structures and position antennas.
