NuWaves Engineering has received a phase one Small Business Innovation Research contract to develop a Mode 5 identification friend or foe simulation and radiofrequency injection platform for the U.S. Army.
NuWaves will partner with ViaSat and leverage the latter’s VRG-1000 IFF Environment Generator to create a tool that will work to introduce up to 1,000 simulated tactical planes to the Mode 5 receiver in support of the service branch’s Joint Scalable Tactical Emulated Network, NuWaves said Wednesday.
Jeff Wells, president and CEO of NuWaves Engineering, said the NuWaves-ViaSat team will work to build an IFF simulation and stimulation platform designed to help the Army simulate tactical aircraft.
ViaSat’s VRG-1000 has 25 independent transponder and 50 IFF interrogator platforms and works to simulate the RF signal environment to facilitate testing of IFF systems.
The SBIR Phase 1 project awarded by the Army’s Redstone Test Center will run for six months and will include the design of a linear RF power amplifier.
