BlackBerryBlackBerry has secured a five-year, multimillion dollar contract to provide crisis communications software for the Joint Emergency Mass Notification Systems of the Senate Sergeant at Arms Office.

The company said Tuesday AtHoc-built software will power JEMNS to facilitate secure notification and communications in the event of a critical situation for approximately 50,000 people that work and visit the U.S. Capitol Complex.

“It’s critical for the nation’s political epicenter to be prepared with a unified communications system to swiftly and securely communicate in the event of an emergency,” said John Chen, executive chairman and CEO at BlackBerry.

“The U.S. Senate is joining more than three million US federal government personnel today in using BlackBerry’s AtHoc software for their crisis communications capability,” Chen added.

Leidos will provide direct and help desk support for the implementation of the JEMNS platform and the effort marks the second engagement between Leidos and the Blackberry’s AtHoc business.

BlackBerry and Leidos also collaborated to deliver AtHoc for the U.S. Army‘s global mass notification system under the Emergency Management Modernization Program.
